Mumbaikars say repeated terror attacks on their vulnerable city have left them more furious than frightened. Why are we so defenceless, so pathetically slow in response? They ask Speak Up

Our response to crisis is slow
The entire country has become a target for terrorists. This time it was Mumbai's turn. Frankly, I have no ideas how we can prevent such attacks or put an end to terrorism. Maybe we need to exercise more caution in our lives. The authorities who are in charge of our security should be much better prepared than they are. The response to a threat is very crucial and has to be really quick. Medical facilities, psychological help, where are all these for the victims? Instead, people walking out of the targeted buildings are being bombarded with questions by journalists. We need better governance and better intelligence agencies. Mumbai is the economic hub of the country and needs extra efforts to secure it.

A frontal attack on India
What has been happening in Mumbai since Wednesday night is a full and frontal attack on India. I think it is an attack on the sensibilities of all right-thinking people. I wonder what the terrorists want to achieve with all this bloodshed. It a human tragedy and an outrage and this should be a major wake-up call for the security forces of this country. There has to be a radical look at the security apparatus in place. At the end of the day the objective of the terrorists will be defeated because they live on the agenda of hate. I believe that violence is senseless and cannot survive for long.

'Spirit of Mumbai' is hogwash
This is not a terrorist attack, the style of operation is war-like! The world should actually treat it as such. We have got so used now to routine terror attacks that we don't take them seriously any more. And the spirit of Mumbai that we talk is complete hogwash.  It's a tragedy that we do things in the name of 'spirit of Mumbai'. I was shocked when I saw the casual reaction to the tragedy. No party should behave as though it is unaffected by the events. We are all affected by what is happening, no matter what our background and no matter what our political ideology. I think everyone should respond to this crisis with outrage.

Political will is lacking
The city is being held to ransom and all we are getting out of politicians is empty statements. The political will to combat terrorism is completely dead in this country. I'd say let us first deal with our politicians and then the terrorist. We need someone with a strong political will to govern the country. If the BJP puts up Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate it will win hands down because he seems to be the only politician with a strong political will. Terrorists are bound to attack simply because you can never be prepared enough to tackle violence on such a scale. But they could have stopped the terrorists before reached the coast.

Combating terror is a must
This recent terror attack on our city has left all of us shattered and scared.  However at a time like this it is important that we stand united against this mindless terror that is threatening to derail the economic gains we have made as a country. Mumbai has been repeatedly targeted and it is unfortunate that we have not seen any real effort made by the government to break the backbone of terrorism. We have to tackle terrorism at the national and the global level. And countries across the world will join us in this effort.
