NEW DELHI/BHOPAL: RSS ideologue and former BJP leader Govindacharya on Tuesday announced his return to active politics and plans to launch a political front, shortly after which Uma Bharti made him her Bharatiya Janashakti party's "overall in-charge".

"It is time for the nationalist forces to pitch in. The two major conglomerates in Indian politics have become pro-rich, pro-minority and pro-foreign. I will announce the the formation of a political front on the occasion of Makar Sakranti," Govindacharya said in New Delhi.

The former BJP general secretary had severed ties with the party during the Vajpayee regime following his remarks calling Vajpayee a "mask" and Advani the "real face" of BJP.

Govindacharya, a patron of RSS Swadeshi movement, had restricted himself to academic activities since he left BJP.

Asked if he had plans to join the BJS formed by his protege Uma Bharti, he said, "BJS is of course an option but we are looking forward for a bigger platform of nationalist forces to strengthen nationalist politics in the country".

Shortly afterwards, Bharti said in Bhopal that Govindacharya will be her party's "overall in-charge" after the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and other states.

She wanted to use his "expertise" in further shaping her party, Bharti said. She also said from now onwards, her party will be a political wing of the Rashtriya Swaibhiman Andolan, with which Govindacharya is closely associated.

When his reaction was sought to Bharti's announcement, Govindacharya said "in principle, I agree to the proposal, but practical aspects will have to be thought out."
