Scholars say Islam was meant to show how to govern humanity

Emphasising the relevance and importance of Islam, religious leaders from across the country said it was meant for the “governance of humanity”. People following Islam ensure that actions taken by them are in the best of the interest of mankind, they said.

The religious leaders spoke at a press conference held on the sidelines of the 10-day Islamic Peace Conference (IPC), which began on Friday at Somaiya ground in Sion (East).

The meet is organised by the Mumbai-based Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), which looks to improving the image of Islam and creating a correct understanding of it among followers and other religions.

“This religion was introduced to tell people how to govern humanity,” said Maulana Abul Waheedi. Maulana Fuzail-ur-Qasmi of Amir Jamaat-e-Hind, said: “There are grave problems the world faces and Islam can provide a solution to these.”

“The Quran can be a panacea for all problems, including medical problems,” said Maulana Ashfaque Salafi.

Another religious scholar, Dr Wasiullah Abbas said, “Religion was born at a place where there were maximum fights. And after getting peace there, there was hope that the message of Islam (that is peace) will spread elsewhere.” The religious leaders said people who cannot do any good for the religion, should not increase problems and let others do the good job they are doing.

Khalid Rashid, member All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), said: “There is misunderstanding about the religion even among Muslims.”He said there could be more brotherhood in the country if misconceptions about Islam were cleared.

“It is important that there is uniformity in preaching the Quran and maulanas should move forward to ensure that it is learnt in an authentic way,” said Maulana Abu Zaffar Hassan Nadwi.
