KOLKATA: A man held for killing a stray dog was on Wednesday remanded to 10-day judicial custody by a city court.

Buli Sen, a resident of Alipore area in south Kolkata, was found guilty under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for burning a stray dog alive Oct 23.

According to the police, a three-year-old dog entered Sen's house twice Oct 23 evening looking for food.

"Sen chased it out once. But when the dog entered his house the second time, he emptied a can of kerosene oil over him and set the dog on fire," a police official said.

Animal lovers of the locality then lodged an FIR against Sen, 42, at the Alipore police station the same day.

"Immediately after that, Sen went absconding. Tipped off by locals that Sen may come to his house to collect a few documents, the police arrested him Tuesday morning," the official added.
