Chasing 175, Delhi Giants surrender for 112

AHMEDABAD: Dhaka Warriors played like true warriors on Monday as they registered their first win in the Indian Cricket League 20s Challenge at the Sardar Patel Stadium on Monday. They easily got the better of Delhi Giants by a handsome 62-run margin in the 13th match of the League.

It was the team’s all-round effort that saw them romp home after two consecutive defeats in their earlier matches. Man-of-the-Match Mohammed Nazimuddin stole the show with a fiery half-century that laid the foundation of their victory.

Dhaka bowlers, too, did a good job and bowled a tight line while the fielders were outstanding on the field. The Giants were dismissed for a mere 112.

Chasing a challenging target of 175, Delhi batsmen did not have a good start to. They lost their opener M. Mishra in the fourth over with just 19 on board. Though Avishka
Gunawardene tried to do the rescue act, he was unlucky to get run out for 22. Middle-order batsman Abhinav Bali went for shots in the middle overs but that did not help as the rest fell like nine pins in 18.4 overs.

Earlier, the Warriors batted well to post a strong total of 174 for 5. The Bangladesh outfit looked confident from the start and showed some improvement too in their do-or-die game.

Nazimuddin and Shariar Nafees began well for Warriors and enjoyed a healthy partnership of 91 runs for the first wicket. After Nazimuddin’s departure, Alok Kapali and skipper Habibul Bashar took over. They managed a 42-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Kapali was dismissed by Sudhindra. Bashar then played cleverly and took his team to a respectable total.
