Sujata seeks permission to travel with daughter for her admission in college abroad

Fugitive gangster Chhota Rajan’s daughter, Anita Nikhalje, wants to complete her graduation in psychology abroad.

The gangster’s wife, Sujata, moved an application before the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Monday seeking permission to travel with her daughter for “completing the admission procedure.”

Anita had got admission in the University of Leeds and the University of Melbourne for B.Sc in psychology after varsity authorities went through her credentials.

Despite the ‘unconditional offer’ to pursue the degree, Anita lost the opportunity as there was no one to accompany her to the universities to complete admission formalities before the expiry of the offer. These offer letters have been submitted to the court.

As per the application, Anita wishes to apply for the same course in two other universities — Singapore Management University and City University, Hong Kong by next month.

Sujata is an accused in a case of extortion under MCOCA and was behind bars for almost two years. She was finally granted bail in September 2007 but one of the conditions imposed on her was that she cannot go abroad without seeking court’s permission.

Sujata has also pleaded that she be given access to funds in one of her bank accounts so that she can pay for her daughter’s education. She also claimed that her family was facing “financial difficulties.”

Under the stringent provisions of MCOCA, most of Sujata’s assets are under freeze till it is proved that they are not pecuniary gains made from activities of an organised crime syndicate.

Sources say Rajan and Sujata have three daughters of whom Anita is the eldest. All three girls stay with their mother in Tilak Nagar. Anita did her schooling from a reputed school in Vidyavihar, the added.

The case will come up for hearing on Saturday.
