The promoted side beat local rivals Mahindra United, making it three wins in a row

MUMBAI:  The fairy tale continued for Mumbai FC as they beat  Mahindra United 1-0 in an I-League encounter at Cooperage. This was their third win on the trot.

Mahindra United started on a positive note with a goal line clearance saving Mumbai FC from going down early. But their body language soon dropped as they were unable to convert any chances. Perhaps the two losses in the previous games had an affect on them.

Mumbai FC realised the stoop and threw attack after attack at the Mahindra defense. Abel Hammond had a chance early on , but it was straight at the Mahindra keeper Subasish Roy Chowdhury.

The only goal of the game came in the 23rd minute, through K Kulothungan, who got at the end of a Subhas Chakraborty cross, shooting it past the rival custodian.

“It was a tough game but we were ready for it. We played better though we were probably not the better side, but we deserved to win,” said Mumbai FC coach, David Booth.

This game had been pegged as a local derby but fell way short of the hype. And it got a lot worse in the second half for the Jeepmen, when Mohammed Rafi missed an open goal that he should have buried. Mahindra had one of their worse games upfront as Edeh Chidi looked absent throughout the game. His replacement Sushil Kumar Singh latched onto a through pass and got it past a defender shot, only to be saved by the keeper. The rebound should have seen him equalise, but Sushil managed to miss.

Second half also saw Mumbai FC put ten men behind the ball which gave space in the middle for want away Mahindra midfielder NP Pradeep to have a long distance shot, but was saved for the cameras by Amit Singh Roy. Steven Dias had been left on the bench but couldn’t do much when he came on.“It just wasn’t our day. We have to keep trying. It is a bad phase we are going through. A win will help us change this. But, if we don’t score, we don’t win,” said Derrick Pereira, Mahindra coach.
