Maestro could overtake Brian Lara as the highest Test run-getter, needing just 77 runs to break the West Indian’s record

BANGALORE: If you happen to be in Bangalore on Saturday, make sure you are at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. If you are not, ensure you are not far away from the telly. The Day Three of the first Test between India and Australia is all set to see a piece of history that every Indian would be proud of.

If India lose two quick wickets on the morrow, Sachin Tendulkar will come in pursuit of those 77 runs which he needs to become the highest scorer in the Test history. There is every chance the Little Master would make it. Currently, Tendulkar has 11,877 runs with retired Lara on 11,953.

On Friday, the Day 2 of the Test, Tendulkar looked all charged up. On the field, he exhibited sharp reflexes, resilience and alacrity. He was willing to dive and run hard for the ball. It was an indication that Tendulkar was hungry and angry too. He has been at the striking distance of the West Indian’s mark.

The stage looks all set for Tendulkar to complete the formality.

Indian openers have given a good start and batting at No 4, Tendulkar should not be under too much pressure. The pitch looks good enough to help the batsmen more than the bowlers. Besides Tendulkar is due for runs and Saturday should put the Little Master back to where he belongs — in the headlines.
