The administrative department of the Mumbai police is planning to take stern action against Bombay 72 degrees East, the pub in Juhu where a rave party was busted by the Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC), on Sunday night. The police is now looking at a legal possibility of cancelling the licence of the pub for allegedly flouting the rules and laws.
According to the police, specific information was received by deputy commissioner of police (ANC), Vishwas Nangre-Patil, that a trance party had been organised at Bombay 72 degrees East, located near Prithvi theatre in Juhu.
Based on this information, the police team raided that place and seized around 104 tablets of Ecstasy, 850 drops of LSD and charas worth around Rs9.6 lakh. Around 239 people were detained from the party, while nine were charged with possession and selling of drugs, police said.
“The Bombay 72 degrees East was given a licence in the year 2005 for running a bar-and-restaurant. But after the raid it was found that they were flouting the rules pertaining to the licence. The bar was open beyond permissible time limit. Also, a disc jockey was performing there, which was not allowed as per the licence conditions issued to it. Most importantly, narcotics were used at the place,” said deputy commissioner of police (Licensing), Vijaysingh Jadhav.
He said the police would soon issue a show-cause notice to the pub. “We are awaiting a report from the ANC, which conducted the raid there. Then, we would ask him the reason why the licence should not be cancelled. If the reply given by him is not found to be satisfactory, we might take necessary action pertaining to cancellation of the licence,” said Jadhav.
