Vohra reviews work of township for Kashmiri pundits

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra on Monday assessed the work of the upcoming mini-township for Kashmiri pundits at Jagti on the outskirts of the city.
    
During his visit, Vohra asked to speed up the work to complete the project in a time-bound manner.
    
The Governor saw the site plan and model of the entire project besides inquiring about the details of the accommodation and facilities being created in the colony.
    
The township, which will house 25,000 displaced Kashmiri pundits, is slated to be completed by next year.
    
"The pace of work is going on a war-footing on the upcoming township for migrants at Jagti in Nagrota area of Jammu. It will be completed by September 2009 and handed over to the beneficiaries," Jammu and Kashmir Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Vinod Koul said.
    
The township, spread over an area of about 87 acres of land, is coming up at cost of Rs 253 crore under the Prime Minister's Reconstruction Programme.
    
It will have modern facilities, including a hospital, schools, community halls.
    
The foundation of the massive two-phase project was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
