MUMBAI: Shiv Sena-backed Bharatiya Kamgar Sena (BKS), on Wednesday alleged that national air-carrier, Air India, was violating the Central Vigilance Commission's (CVC) guidelines on the selection of hotels for its cabin-crew.

"The procedure followed for hotel selection is in gross violation of CVC guidelines," BKS' General Secretary and President of the All India Cabin Crew Association, Kiran Pawaskar, said in a press release here.

The Air India management was also violating the bilateral agreements of 1988 and 1995 signed with the AICCA, he alleged.

Now cabin-crew were being put up at motels instead of hotels and in areas unsafe for women, Pawaskar alleged.

"No AICCA representative is allowed inspection (of the accommodation sites) despite the bilateral agreements," he said.

Earlier, Pawaksar along with representatives from AICCA, a section of the Air India Employees Union, Air India Service Engineers Association and three Sena MPs held a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, in Delhi today and apprised him of the situation prevailing a year after the merger of Air India and Indian into one entity.

The three Sena MPS who met Patel are Bharat Kumar Raut, Sanjay Raut and Mohan Rawle,

The three unions--AICCA, AIEU and AIEA--together claim the support of more than 7,500 employees in the now merged entity.

The BKS also alleged that the Air India management was showing a lackadaisical attitude towards their demands on wage settlement reached through a memorandum of understanding.

The AICCA signed a MoU on wages for the period beyond January 1, 1997, which was subject to the approval of the Board of Directors and the Government, Pawaskar said.

"While the necessary approvals have been obtained over 8 months ago, the management has displayed a lackadaisical attitude until last week in entering a formal Memorandum of Settlement in terms of the MoU with the AICCA," he said.
