NEW DELHI; Flattered he might be by the adulation that has come with his historic gold medal at the Beijing Olympics but marksman Abhinav Bindra says the attention is not comfortable and he has contemplated donning a disguise and running away for a month.

Bindra was given a rousing reception on arrival from Beijing after becoming the first Indian to claim an individual gold medal, felicitated several times over by political bigwigs and has been busy giving sound bytes to TV channels.

The 25 year old said he is exhausted and desperately wants to head home for some respite.

"I won the gold and my world exploded. I like to keep myself with my familiar comfort. While the attention has been flattering, at the same time there is constant glare of scrutiny which I can really do without", the rifle shooter wrote in his latest blog entry.

I am so looking forward to being home in my familiar comfort one. I have flirted with the idea of donning a disguise and running away from a month till the euphoria passes and life gets to normal. Unfortunately that's not an option just as of now. But hey, it's fun fantasy,  he quipped.

Bindra said dealing with the new found fame and attention was more daunting than shooting.

I know my life is not going to be even close to the same upon return but it is something I am going to have to embrace and actually enjoy, which I am at this moment finding way more daunting than shooting,  Bindra said.

Ever since his triumph, Bindra said he has been hearing reports of rifle sales going up but he cautioned all prospective shooters against causing any damage to life and property in their enthusiasm.

I am happy to know that air guns are running off the shelves across India. From the many will come the few who can be groomed to go all the way. However, I would like to caution all potential shooters out there that firearms are not toys. Prudence is essential in their use. Please be careful not to cause hurt to any living creature,  he signed off.
