MUMBAI: The imbroglio between Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, may be sorted out within a couple of days, Congress general secretary Margaret Alva said here on Monday.
Alva, in charge of party affairs in the state, was informally interacting with mediapersons after felicitating the newly appointed Himachal Pradesh governor, Prabha Rau, who was previously the state party president.
While Deshmukh has been camping in New Delhi since Sunday night, Rane is also expected to go to the national capital for parleys very soon.
Alva is expected to meet Deshmukh and later meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi Tuesday in a concerted damage-control exercise.
"A solution is expected.. Every problem has a solution," Alva said responding to a barrage of questions on the deadlock between the two senior leaders.
When queried about the controversial CIDCO-Videocon Group's Rs.80 billion joint venture at Navi Mumbai, the bone of contention between the two Maratha leaders, Alva said: "It is a state cabinet decision. It was improper to make it a public issue."
On Rane's repeated charges against Deshmukh and the Democratic Front government on the deal, Alva merely replied: "Rane may have his own issues."
Alva said the name of the new Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president would be announced "in a couple of days".
Since Rau's elevation to a gubernatorial assignment, the post has been lying vacant. State Cooperation, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam is holding interim charge.
To a pointed question whether the Deshmukh-Rane spat would have any adverse impact on the next state assembly elections, Alva replied in the negative. "It's still a long way to go for the next elections," she said.
