LONDON: People from Hindu as well as Muslim community took part in prayer meetings which were organised here in memory of those killed in the recent bombings in India that took over 50 lives.

The meetings, attended by thirty members of various organisations from the London boroughs of Harrow and Brent, were held in Harrow, which has a large concentration of people of Indian origin.

A similar meeting was held in Leicester, a town in the east Midlands with a large population from the state of Gujarat in India.

Groups represented at the meetings included the National Congress of Gujarati Organisations, Pakistani Cultural Society, Harrow Hindu Association, Brent Hindu Association, Harrow Central Mosque, Indian Muslim Federation, and Muslim Safety Forum.

Greater London Assembly Member, Councillor Navin Shah said, "The perpetrators of such atrocities are not Muslims, they are neither Hindus nor Christians, the people who have carried out these bombings have no religion at all."

The groups meeting in Harrow wanted to send a clear message to the people of India that the Hindu and the Muslim communities were united in condemning the bombings and urging unity among the communities there.

Marcus Solanki, a member of the Gujarat Christian group in Leicester said, "It was terrifying to hear of the attacks as I have many in-laws living in the city. I called them up and they were OK. I thank God none of my family members were hurt, but I pray for those who were injured."

Condemning the attacks, Abdul Karim Gheewala, general secretary of the Leicester-based Indian Muslim Association, said, "The perpetrators are worse than animals, devoid of conscience and human and religious values.
