LONDON: When Aditya Mittal wanted to shell out £ 200 million for a London house, no eyebrows were raised. After all he is the son of the world's richest man. But Euan Blair, former British prime minister Tony Blair's eldest son, has no such luck.

Euan is in Monday's newspapers for wanting to buy a two-bedroom flat in Islington, North London, for £ 550,000 even though he is yet to complete his first month in employment.

According to The Independent, the 24-year-old is only about to start his graduate traineeship with Morgan Stanley.

The daily says at 550,000 pounds, and taking into account mortgage lenders' current caution, it is unlikely that Euan, who is probably paid about £ 30,000 at Morgan Stanley, would have been able to afford the property on his own.

Tony Blair's spokesperson Mathew Doyle denied the Blairs had bought the property for their son. However, he did not deny when asked if the flat had been bought by Euan.

London newspapers confirmed Euan being seen coming and going from the flat.

The Mail on Sunday even spoke to a solicitor for a law firm Russell, Jones and Walker, who confirmed that she was acting for Euan on the matter, but was unable to comment further. Callers to estate agency Foxtons handling the property have been told the asking price has been met.

The former prime minister has earned a lot through memoir writing and speaking arrangements since he quit office.

The Blairs have also been in the news off and on for their property portfolio. It includes the constituency home in Trimdon Colliery, two Bristol flats, the 3.65 million pounds Connaught Square townhouse in central London and the adjoining £ 800,000 mews up-down; and the £ 5 million Buckinghamshire country home formerly inhabited by actor John Gielgud.
