SRINAGAR: Three persons, including a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and a teacher were killed, two were arrested and three hideouts busted in Jammu and Kashmir, army and police said on Friday.
    
Hizbul Mujahideen militant identified as Irshad Ahmad Dar alias Tauseef was killed in an encounter with troops of Rashtriya Rifles at Chak Charat Ram near Pattan in Baramulla district this morning, a defence spokesperson said.
    
The encounter took place when troops observed suspicious movement and challenged the suspected militant, he said adding instead of surrender, the militant opened fire and in the retaliatory action, got killed.
    
An AK-47 rifle with two magazine and 20 rounds were recovered from the slain militant, who was a resident of Chechloor village of Tangmarg, he said.
    
Militants shot dead a 46-year-old contractor Ghulam Nabi Khanday outside his house at Khandaypora in Awantipora area of Pulwama district in the day, a police spokesman said.
    
He said a bullet-riddled body of a teacher identified as Abdul Rashid Mir was recovered from Rawatpora forest in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
    
The news of Mir's death sparked massive protest as local residents took to streets demanding an inquiry into his death, official sources said.
    
A complete shutdown was observed in Bandipora district town in protest against the massive destruction to residential houses in nearby Lavdara village allegedly during an encounter on Thursday, the reports said.
    
In another operation, the army spokesman said troops of nine Rashtriya Rifles launched an operation in Wogur village, three kms from Kreri in Baramulla district and arrested two persons - a suspected militant and an overground worker.
    
Identifying the arrested persons as 'suspected militant' Hilal Ahmed Rather and overground worker Abdul Ganai Dar of Karewa, the spokesman said they were hiding in a house in the village.
    
A 7.62 Chinese pistol, one magazine and six rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of rather, the spokesman said adding both the individuals were involved in providing logistic help to militants involved in firing on security convoy in the area on September 26.
    
Troops of 50 Rashtriya Rifles busted a hideout during a search and destroy operation at Shershali in Anantnag district which led to the recovery of six kg explosive, five detonators, four hand grenades, five AK magazines, 300 ammunition, one radio set and other warlike stores, the spokesman said.
    
He said troops recovered 15 hand grenades, one rifle, four magazines, 220 rounds of ammunition and one radio set from a hideout at Shat Gund in Kupwara district.
    
Troops of 31 Rashtriya Rifles launched a search operation in Narad village in Kupwara district and seized a rocket launcher, three rocket propelled grenade (RPG) rounds with booster, an under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), 18 UBGL grenades, 198 rounds of Pika ammunition, 570 rounds of AK ammunition, 65 rounds of AK tracer ammunition and 19 AK magazines, he added.
