AHMEDABAD: Senior Gujarat police official RB Sreekumar has filed an affidavit before the Nanavati-Shah commission seeking that Chief Minister Narendra Modi undergo forensic tests in connection with Godhra train carnage in 2002.

Sreekumar, who was a senior official of the State Intelligence Bureau when the communal riots broke out, has alleged that "the SIB was used by politicians and some senior police officials to 'produce' a conspiracy theory, including the role of Pakistan-based ISI, about the attack without any sufficient evidence", sources in the Commission said.

In the affidavit to Godhra Commission, filed on October 28, Sreekumar, an Additional Director General of Police, has sought that all of them, including himself, undergo forensic tests like polygraph test, narco-analysis and brain fingerprinting, the sources added.

In his 78-page affidavit which is yet to be admitted by the Commission, Sreekumar mentions how Modi and other senior officials met him on the day of the train carnage and "produced" the conspiracy theory (that Muslims aided by ISI were planning to attack the Sabarmati express train), the sources added.

Sreekumar has also alleged in the affidavit that the then Joint Director of SIB Rajendrakumar "hatched up" the ISI theory in connection with the train attack  after the incident occurred.

The police official has already been chargesheeted by the Gujarat government in connection with "leaking" official documents like his "semi-official diary" to the media in which he has mentioned how Narendra Modi told him to go soft on Hindus who indulged in rioting and only target Muslims and allow the majority community to "vent their anger".

Following his claims before the Godhra Commission, Sreekumar's promotion was also stalled by the state government and he challenged it before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).

Sreekumar has also accused senior IAS officials of "tutoring" him while he was to depose before the Godhra Commission so as to "toe government line" and not say anything that is not in their (government) interest.
