BANGALORE: Bookanakere Siddalingappa (BS) Yeddyurappa created history on Friday afternoon, becoming the only Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief minister in south India a second time in six months. The 65-year-old, who was sworn in with 29 cabinet ministers at 1.50 pm outside the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore with pomp and pageantry, said as he once again ascended the Karnataka throne, “I swear in the name of farmer and God.”

The ceremony was attended by over 75,000 supporters, besides BJP bigwigs LK Advani, Venkaiah Naidu and president Rajnath Singh, and ally George Fernandes. Party chief ministers Narendra Modi (Gujarat), Parkash Singh Badal (Punjab) and former Maharashtra chief minister Gopinath Munde were also present.

Later, addressing the media, Yeddyurappa promised the moon to the people of Karnataka. “Wait and watch how we implement the manifesto we released in April this year,” he said.

The manifesto includes food, health care and education to those below poverty line at a nominal cost, free power and a loan waiver to farmers, internet in villages and improved infrastructure and connectivity to cities, especially capital Bangalore.

“We will give you a five-year stable and efficient government,” Yeddyurappa said.
The BLP-led government will hold its first assembly session from June 5 and the chief minister will seek a vote of confidence in the first week itself.
