NEW DELHI: As his son and nephew were convicted in the Nitish Katara murder case, controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav on Wednesday claimed that injustice has been done to his "innocent children" and that the prime witness was bought over to frame them.

Yadav said they will approach the Delhi High Court "seeking justice", claiming the case was based on the statement of witness Ajay Katara, who he alleged was planted by police and Neelam, mother of the murdered Nitish Katara.

He also said the verdict came despite their lawyer informing the court that an application seeking to restrain the trial court froms pronouncing the judgement was to come on Wednesday.

"Injustice has been done to our innocent children. We will raise our voice against this injustice and approach the High Court to get justice," Yadav told reporters here soon after his son Vikas and nephew Vishal were convicted for murdering Nitish Katara.

Yadav claimed that "picture is very clear" about the case as a sting operation purportedly showed Katara talking about how he was bought over as a prosecution witness.

"Ajay got a cinema hall in Panipat, a gas agency in Gurgaon in the deal. We want the courts to take the sting operation into account," he said.

He claimed that the case was meant to target him "politically".

"This is to politically destroy me. They are trying to destroy my family. My political career has been destroyed," he said.
