NEW DELHI: Delhi is living up to its branding as the nation’s crime capital. After the double murder in twin city Noida 11 days ago, the capital woke up to another double blow on Monday morning – an elderly couple had been done to death allegedly by its domestic help in south Delhi. Soon after came the shocking news of a man and his son raping his minor niece in east Delhi.

Ashok Goel, 62, a retired employee of the capital’s Taj Mahal hotel, and wife Lata, 55, were found dead at their Neeti Bagh residence at 11 am by a neighbour. Police said their bodies had multiple stab wounds and their throats were slit.

A senior police officer said, “A sharp-edged weapon was used to kill the couple. Their house has been ransacked and domestic help Mukesh Yadav, who hails from Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, is absconding. He is the prime suspect.”

The incident came to light when Vikas Bharadwaj went to the couple’s house following a call from their younger daughter Priya, who requested him to check whether her parents were alright as her repeated attempts to reach them over phone had failed.
DCP (south Delhi) HGS Dhaliwal said, “Bharadwaj dialed police after he saw blood coming out of the front door, which was closed from inside. The police entered the house from the terrace and found the bodies lying in a pool of blood.”

The couple is survived by two married daughters. They had employed Yadav only a week ago and his police verification was to be done, though the family had applied for it. Dhaliwal said cops had gone to the Goel residence a few days ago to verify Yadav’s antecedents but he was not there at that time.

In the east Delhi case, the 10-year-old girl from New Ashok Nagar was first raped allegedly by her paternal uncle Sahdev on Saturday while his son Sanjay followed suit on Sunday night, police said. Both have been arrested.
