SRINAGAR: Seven militants were on Saturday killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir while another was arrested.
    
Six Jaish-e-Mohammad militants, yet to be identified, were killed in a gunbattle at Lurgam-Tral in Pulwama while another militant was shot dead in Bandipora, official sources said.
    
The shootout began when police assisted by army and CRPF cordoned off Lurgam-Tral village, 45 kms from here on Saturday morning following information that militants had taken shelter in a house.
    
Finding themselves trapped, the militants opened indiscriminate fire on the search party and in the ensuing encounter six militants were killed, the sources said.
    
In another operation launched by troops of 14 Rashtriya Rifles at Kuta forest in Bandipora district, one militant was killed, the sources said.
    
Meanwhile, Security forces arrested a militant and busted a militant hideout.
    
Acting on specific information, troops of 41 Rashtriya Rifles arrested suspected militant Tariq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Badshah Masjid Sopore, from a vehicle at Khangund in Kupwara in the wee hours, a police spokesman said.
    
He said one Ak 47 Rifle, sixteen under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) grenades, one AK magazine, thirty rounds of AK ammunition, two Chinese grenades and rupees nine thousand one hundred were recovered from his possession.
    
The vehicle in which he was travelling was seized and police have registered a case in this regard, the spokesman said.
    
In a separate incident, security forces and local police jointly smashed a militant hideout and recovered some arms and ammunition in Ganderbal district today, a defence spokesman said.
    
Troops of five Rashtriya Rifles and police launched a combing operation at Hapatnar in Ganderbal and found a cave hideout. They recovered a revolver, a 9mm pistol magazine, seven optical sights, 64 rounds of electric detonator, four hand grenades, four gelatine sticks and three blankets from it, the spokesman said.
