PUNE: Indian Hockey Federation chief KPS Gill feels that he has done nothing wrong and he would be able to put things on track very soon. Gill spoke to DNA on several issues regarding the upliftment of the game. Excerpts:

Both men and women failed to qualify for Beijing Olympics. And your secretary Jyotikumaran is involved in a scandal. Don’t you think Indian hockey is going through its worst phase?
We have not lost ground, but lost track. There are certain elements we (IHF) should look at. We have to do something for the junior hockey and get things done to put things back on the track. Jyoti’s episode is an unfortunate one.

Don’t you think that you have failed to deliver as IHF president?
You and some people  say that. It is easy to pass comments sitting, but one has to sit on this chair to comment. Those who are commenting have not contributed anything to hockey but they are free to talk as it’s a democratic country.

What do you think are measures to be taken now How much time will it take to revive Indian hockey?
I will not mention any time limit. In the days to come one will get what IHF is up to.

Is this failure a wake-up call for the IHF?
Again you may say that… But I (IHF) will very soon prove it.

Now what are your plans? Can you reveal?
There is nothing to hide… We are giving a kick start from Chandigarh where we have found that schools and colleges are interested in hockey and thereafter we will go to Bangalore, Coorg and could be Pune, but not Mumbai.

Why are you excluding Mumbai which has produced so many Olympians?
It is very difficult to find a place in Mumbai and the MHA is already fighting for its existence. We would like to ignore Mumbai and start with the other places wherein we have people willing to do it.

Is Ric Charlesworth going to be there?
Of course he will be there and we (IHF) have already drawn plans for him till June. He was with the women’s team and now he will get back to some serious work.
