NEW DELHI: After getting the permit from China, Jet Airways plans to launch its Mumbai-Shanghai-San Fransisco services from first week of June.

"We received the permit on Thursday. We plan to start our services to Shanghai and San Fransisco from the first week of June," an official of the premier private carrier said.

Jet Airways was also carrying out talks with several Chinese carriers for partnerships to provide connectivity in the region, on the lines of the one it has with Brussels Airlines for onward journey to other European cities, he said.

The airline would start its operations with daily flights, the official said, adding that certain formalities were yet to be completed.

Jet Airways on Wednesday launched its service from Mumbai to Hong Kong, flying an Airbus A 330-200 aircraft in a two-class configuration. Hong Kong became Jet's 16th global destination in its rapidly expanding international route map.

The airline would soon start a sales promotion campaign, not only in India but also in China, as it would pick up passengers from Shanghai for onward journey to San Fransisco, the official said, adding that this would enable the carrier to sell the seats in advance.

The Chinese authorities have granted Fifth Freedom Right to Jet to enable it pick passengers from China and fly them to the US.

The Chinese clearance to Jet Airways came about 10 days after India gave its final nod the Chinese cargo carrier Great Wall to operate to Mumbai and Chennai.

Under the latest bilateral air traffic agreement between the two countries, the designated carriers of both nations can operate 49 flights each week. The pact was reviewed after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh 's visit to China this January.

The agreement, arrived at here last month, allows designated airlines of the two countries to operate to any three beyond points under Fifth Freedom Rights including two to any one region.

India has specified that its designated carriers would like to operate to the United States and Canada as one region, Australia and New Zealand as the second and Asia as
the third.

Similarly, China has opted for Africa as the first region, Middle East as the second and Europe as the third.
