Minister holds up JetLite’s Goa-bound flight for over an hour to attend ‘meeting’

NEW DELHI: The bully finally had it. Passengers booed and humiliated women and child development minister Renuka Chowdhary after she held up a flight to Goa for more than an hour at Delhi Airport.

As the minister entered the aircraft, which was scheduled to leave at 1.15 pm but left at 2.40 pm, restless passengers jeered and protested her audacity. Chowdhary reportedly tried to reason saying she had a cabinet meeting to attend which, in fact, was not the case.

Angry passengers were anyway not in a mood to listen to her excuses and shouted “shame, shame” as she entered the aircraft.

While the passengers booed and demanded an apology, it is learnt, Chowdhury showed no signs of apology and shouted back aggressively saying she was caught in an “important meeting” of the cabinet, hence, was late.

The passengers, many of whom had to take a connecting flight, did not buy her excuse and argued that she should have taken the next flight instead of delaying other passengers. The situation turned so ugly that the passengers demanded Chowdhury to be disembarked from the flight as a punishment. It is learnt that a passenger even went to the extent of taking the seat reserved for the minister. He was, however, forcibly removed by Chowdhury’s security officers.

Passengers also took on the airlines officials for not giving them the exact reason for the delay. It is learnt that most of the passengers were given the impression that the flight was held up due to technical reasons. However, it was when things started moving faster after Chowdhury’s arrival that they realised that the “technical snag” was no one else but Chowdhury. In fact, even the airlines officials were upset by the minister’s behaviour but no one dared say anything.

Chowdhury was on her way to Goa for a personal visit. She was travelling by JetLite Airways flight number S2/117.
