DIMAPUR (Nagaland): Terming the Rs 60,000 crore loan waiver to farmers as 'revolutionary', Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said the step would go a long way in mitigating the problems plaguing the farmers.

Addressing an election rally here, Gandhi said it was a "historic" budget where a "revolutionary step" was taken by announcing a Rs 60,000 crore loan waiver scheme for the farmers.

The union budget has been prepared keeping in mind every section of the society, Gandhi said.

Congratulating Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the loan waiver scheme, she said it would be implemented by June this year.

Highlighting the provisions of the budget for social sectors, Gandhi, also the UPA chairperson, said substantial allocation was made for women welfare and for self-help groups.

She called upon the people of Nagaland to vote for Congress in the March 5 assembly election.

She accused the Democratic Alliance government which was in power before the imposition of President's rule in the state of being "inefficient and corrupt".
