Save SSC examinees from year loss

A school had denied hall tickets to some of its students appearing for the  SSC exams, starting on Friday. They had defaulted on fees, said the school.

The students rushed to the nearest police station to file a complaint against the school authorities. But a few good men at Vile Parle police station did what was best for the students.

Instead of recording a complaint against the school, they calmly negotiated with its authorities, and ensured that the students would get their hall tickets before the start of the exams. Thanks to them budding careers were saved.

Most of the 200 SSC examinees of BL Ruia High School were having a good time at their farewell party on Thursday afternoon. But for a few, it turned into a nightmare when the principal told them that they would not be issued their hall tickets for Friday’s  practical examinations.

The blacklisted students were told to pay up Rs1,500, which each of them “owed to the school” - Rs1,200 for extra classes of two hours daily and Rs300 in semester fee for computer course.

Around 50 students came to the police station to lodge complaint against the school management. They feared the worst: they would not be able to appear for their board exams this year. “Tomorrow is our science practical. If we do not get our hall tickets, we won’t be able to appear for it. A year will be wasted. Please do something for us,” Aditya Narayan (name changed), a student, pleaded with the cops.

The students wanted to lodge a police complaint, but the cops dissuaded them. They instead called up school secretary Purshottam Ruia, and the matter was amicably sorted out within two to three hours.

“We do not want to stop the students from appearing for their board exams. But at the same time, we want them to clear their dues,” said Ruia.
