REASI (JK): Asking people to dismantle barriers, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said his government would build a strong foundation for the state.

"The present era is an era of development and the time to divide people in the name of religion and region is over. The slogans did not produce hospitals, roads or schools," Azad said at a public meeting here after laying the foundation stone of the mini-secretariat.

The coalition government had brought about a sea change in the development scenario and with the support of the electorate after the elections would speed up this process further, he said.

He said special focus was given to the development of backward areas by making available more funds and taking up schemes.

Azad referred to the creation of eight new districts and said this was done to take the development process to the areas.

He said the district had tremendous tourism potential and the government was working on developing a tourist circuit here to attract tourists in large numbers.
