ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf's spokesman on Sunday denied reports in a section of the media that he is considering stepping down rather than being forced out of office by the opposition parties that won last week's general election.
A close confidante of Musharraf had been quoted by Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper as saying that the President would quit in a "matter of days and not months".
But presidential spokesman Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi said, "I think one should not attach much credence to the report. Nothing of this sort has been discussed in the President's office."
Qureshi also said the President has no role in government formation and it is up to the politicians to form the new government.
