It was greed for money that drove four youngsters to commit a robbery and in the process kill 65-year-old, ex-censor board member Kiran Khanna, at her Worli residence on February 4.

Soon after committing the crime, the suspects fled the state, till they were arrested by the city crime branch at Orissa.

The youngsters have been identified as Girish Behra, 25, Sudhir Behra, 23, Gullu Sahu, 25 and 15-year-old Raj (name changed as he is a minor). All of them are natives of Dheknal village in Orissa.

The police said that Raj worked as a domestic help at Khanna’s residence. On February 4 around 2.40pm, a youngster came with a bouquet and told the watchman of Bhagwan Apartments that he wanted to visit Khanna, who lived on the 3rd floor. A few minutes later, another youngster went to the flat posing as a courier boy.

A little later, Raj came out of the house screaming and alerted the neighbours that three unknown people had assaulted him and Khanna and have robbed the house.

A complaint was registered with the Worli police station. Khanna was taken to Breach Candy Hospital, but she died of her injuries. Her family said cash and jewellery worth Rs10.10 lakh were robbed from the house.

“Initially they planned to rob the house on January 29, but postponed it to February 4. Girish, Bholu, Sudhir and Gullu met near Bhagwan Apartments. Sudhir and Bholu rang the doorbell and when Raj opened the door, they pushed him. Raj pretended to have fainted,” said joint commissioner of police (crime), Rakesh Maria.

The assailants then took a taxi to Colaba, went to Gullu’s servant quarter, and distributed the loot among them. Sudhir and Bholu travelled to Nashik, Nagpur, Raipur and then to their village in Dheknal. While, Sudhir and Girish were arrested on Saturday, the other two were nabbed on Monday.
