Sachin’s quickfire ton takes Delhi past 300-plus target

MUMBAI: Delhi Jets overpowered Mumbai Champs by six wickets in the third match of the ongoing ICL 50’s at Mayajaal on Tuesday.

The key performer for Jets was Sachin Dholpure, who smashed a brilliant hundred (103 off 95 balls) chasing 300 plus runs.

Batting first, Mumbai were off to a good start as the Champs openers Robin Morris and Dheeraj Yadav took the score to 64. Dheeraj Yadav struck a fine 49 to get the innings going for the Champs. Ravi Raj Patil then joined Yadav to further bolster Mumbai’s position. He was out 2 short of his half-century.

Then came the burst for Mumbai as Kiran Powar and Nikhil Mandale put on 128 runs off 78 balls for the 5th wicket. Powar played a captain’s knock to score a belligerent 58 ball 92 that included five sixes. Meanwhile, Nikhil Mandale was at his best and was a perfect foil for Powar’s big hitting.

Mandale was not out on 60 off 44 balls as the Mumbai Champs closed their innings on 304 off 50 overs. Delhi Jet’s bowling was lackadaisical as Mumbai Champs powered past 300. Delhi’s left-arm spinner and top wicket-taker of the recently-concluded ICL T20 Championship, Ali Murtuza, picked up 2 for 45 in 10 overs.

Delhi reached the target in the 39th over thanks to big hitting and some wayward bowling and inept fielding by Champs fielders.
