The Narendra Modi brand of politics will never work in Maharashtra. There is no doubt that as Gujarat’s CM, he has been able to strike right chord with the people in his home state. But if the BJP is trying to replicate the politics of communal polarisation, it is most unfortunate.
As far as the Congress is concerned, in the democratic system every individual has the right to go anywhere and propagate his/her party’s ideology.
In that sense Modi is welcome in Mumbai. However, I he should not use the Shivaji Park rally to visciate the atmosphere here.
Moreover, one should not overlook the fact that the Indian social fabric is knitted by secular values which leaves very little room for Modi brand of politics. Gujarat remains an exception. The BJP is trying to to consolidate their vote base spec-ally after his success in the assembly elections.
Today, they are clutching Modi-style Hindutva to revive their lost glory.
