Chelsea sign defender Ivanovic

LONDON: Chelsea have completed the signing of Serbia international defender Branislav Ivanovic. The 23-year-old player joins from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow for a fee of $17.7 million.

Ivanovic is manager Avram Grant's second signing of the transfer window, after he snapped up forward Nicolas Anelka from Bolton last week.

"Chelsea can confirm it has agreed terms with Lokomotiv Moscow for the transfer of Branislav Ivanovic," a club statement said.

"A work permit application has also been successful for the player."
 
"The transfer is now subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing of the medical test," the statement said.
