NEW DELHI: In tune with its strategy to diversify its product portfolio, homegrown FMCG major Dabur India Ltd plans to foray into the milk segment to tap the Rs 100 crore milk-based beverages market.

The company, which sells fresh juice in the beverage segment, is exploring the possibility of entering the milk based drink segment but has not set any time frame to roll out a product in the category.

"We are exploring the option of entering value-added milk-based beverage market, but no time-frames have yet been set for this foray. We are currently exploring the market," a company spokesperson said.

Dabur would be the latest entrant into the segment after global beverage giants, Pepsi and Coke, announced their plans to tap the milk-based drinks market in India.

The company is presently looking for outsourcing milk as it has made it clear that it will limit itself to the value added milk based beverages and has no plans to enter into fresh milk and in the dairy segment.

"Dabur India has no plans to enter the pure milk and dairy segment," he said.

Past few months have been witnessing heightened activity in the flavoured milk category as two major players Nestle and Amul had staged an entry in the market.

Besides, other players such as Britannia, Mother Dairy, Parle and some regional player, such as Vijaya and Energee and Delhi-based Paras group, are also working on the flavoured milk project.
