KOLKATA: World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand would love to have another match with former champion Garry Kasparov if the Russian legend decides to come out of retirement.
Arriving at the city late on Tuesday night, Anand interacted with the media after felicitating the NIIT MCA East Zone title winners.
"I would welcome it, if Kasparov changes his mind about retirement. We can have a great match then. We did not have an opportunity to play after 1995 and that is a real pity," Anand said when asked if he was keen on playing Kasparov.
The last time they met was in the World Championship clash in the World Trade Centre where Garry crushed Anand.
On his goals next year, Anand said, "Anything I attain in chess is a great motivation for me. I will be playing in Corus next month. I am a five-time winner there, but there is no lack of motivation."
Asked about his plans to shift base to Chennai from Madrid, he said, "Though I operate from Madrid even now, I plan to finally settle down in Chennai. One of the more important reasons is we have some very good playing partners here.
"Some of the Indian players have come up very fast. While (Krishnan) Sasikaran has moved up steadily, it is Koneru Humpy who has the potential to become a future world champion. Others like Sandipan Chanda, Surya sekhar Ganguly, Pentala Harikrishna are a little slow."
Anand advocated a showcase tournament to give a boost to chess in India.
"We need a big showcase tournament where big names around the world would come. We are getting sponsors in chess, but that is not enough. We need more money in the game."
