SRINAGAR: In its first incident of paedophilia, J&K police has arrested a school teacher for sodomising a standard VIII student and taking his nude pictures in a remote village of Handwara tehsil, in border district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
Nazir Ahmad Mir, 28, of Bonpora village in Handwara was arrested by the police after the parents of the student lodged a report in the police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and booked Nazir under section 377 of RPC.
Superintendent of police, Handwara, Haseeb Mughal said Nazir used to give tuitions to the student at his home where he committed the crime. “Initially, the family was reluctant to lodge a complaint because of the social stigma. But on Monday they approached us. We have now arrested the teacher,” he said.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Nazir has been sodomising the student for the last three months. What has also shocked the police and the local people are the reports that he used to take nude pictures of the boy during and after the acts. “He had taken some nude pictures of the boy with his mobile phone, and a few days ago, he showed them to one of the locals in the area. When it came to our notice, we raided his place and recovered the mobile phone containing the nude pictures,” he said.
Police said Nazir is a known drug addict and has been working as a school teacher for sometime. “Nazir is an orphan and takes drugs. He does not stay put in one school and often changes his jobs. In his free time, he used to give tuitions to the students in the area. It is the first case when a complaint has been filed against him by any of the parents,” Haseeb said.
SP Handwara said they were investigating the matter and his questioning was in progress. Police is also seeking medical opinion to further corroborate the evidence against the accused school teacher.
This is the second case of minors being targeted in Handwara area. A few months ago, a class 8 student Tabinda Gani was raped and murdered allegedly by three local youth in the area. The incident caused a furore as two of the accused was migrant labourers.
