BANGALORE: Already short of a bowler and facing injury problems to some of its players, Pakistan suffered a severe setback as their top speedster Shoaib Akthar was taken to a city hospital after he complained of back pain.

Akhtar fell down on the wickets while trying to run out Yuvraj Singh in the post-lunch session.

Yuvraj took off for a non existent single only to be rightly sent back by Sourav Ganguly when India were struggling at 92 for four. Yuvraj scrambled back to the non strikers end but Sami's throw from mid-off missed the stumps.

Akthar, the bowler, dived towards the stumps to collect the ball to run out Yuvraj but failed in doing both and instead fell like a heap on the three stumps.

Akthar was immediately taken to a sports speciality hospital in the city for an MRI scan. The report of the scan was awaited.

This would seriously hampered the Pakistani stand-in captain Younis Khan's hopes of dismissing the Indians cheaply as his bowling arsenal weakened considerably in the absence of Akthar.

Even a half-fit 'Rawalpindi Express' can cause trouble to any side and it was evident that he was not fully fit.  He was made to bowl in short spells of five, three and two overs in three spells respectively by his captain.
