SRINAGAR: The shocking story of a former Miss Jammu who was allegedly sexually harassed by her own father, has rocked the conservative society of Jammu and Kashmir. The police have arrested her father, a BSF constable, who had lodged a missing report in the police station and later alleged that she was kidnapped by a Delhi resident.
Miss Jammu was missing for two years and was recently recovered by the Jammu police from Delhi after a hectic search. She was presented before the local court where she gave a statement which left people in a state of shock. She said in her statement that in fact it was her father who had sent her to Delhi for modelling.
“My father accompanied me to Delhi and despite my reservations he booked a room in a hotel. I was shocked when one day he tried to make advances. I resisted but could not tell anyone about it because of the stigma attached to it. This was not the end of the bestiality, since he was adamant about maintaining the relation, threatening that he would tell people that I am involved in flesh trade,” she said.
She, however, managed to get in touch with her family and ultimately married someone on March 15. The court observed the statement discloses a commission of offence against the accused and directed the police to register a case against him and investigate the matter. “We have arrested the man and started investigation into the incident,” said Parminder Singh, SSP of Jammu.
This is the second case of sexual abuse involving a beauty queen. In 2004, police arrested former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta after they recovered a porn CD allegedly featuring her.
The CD was sent for analysis which proved that the girl in the CD was not Anara. Later a Bollywood movie was made about her. ‘Miss Anara’ was released recently in the country but not in Jammu because Shiv Sena opposed it.
