LUDHIANA: A quarrel between two school-going sisters over watching a TV programme ended in the death of one of them, who allegedly consumed a bottle of toilet cleaner in a fit of rage in a village in this district.

The incident happened last night in village Gurusar under Dakha police station when the elder sister wanted to view a serial and the younger sister pressed for watching a movie, police said on Wednesday.

This led to a heated exchange between the two after which the elder one rushed to the bathroom in anger and drank a bottle of toilet cleaner lying there, police alleged.

Her younger sister followed suit in panic lest she be blamed for the death of her elder sister, police alleged.

Both of them were immediately taken to a nearby hospital by family members. The elder sister died in hospital but her sibling could be saved, police said.

The doctors have declared her out of danger, police said.

Police alleged the case was one of suicide as preliminary investigations revealed that there was no motive behind the act.
