'Probe terror plot targeting Rahul'

AMETHI: Local Congress leaders on Sunday demanded a thorough probe into the alleged terror plot of Jaish-e-Mohammad to target the party's general secretary and MP from here, Rahul Gandhi.

The government must investigate the matter thoroughly to unearth their (militants') contacts here', district panchayat member Rajiv Singh said today.

Three JeM militants were nabbed from Lucknow on Friday last and on interrogation they allegedly revealed that Rahul Gandhi was their target.

He said that after the latest threat to Rahul, the people of his constituency would have to think as to whether he (Rahul) should continue to be freely accessible to his electorate.

"Rahul's security must be increased," said Ashok Dubey, a village pradhan.

District Police Chief of Sultanpur D C Mishra said the local intelligence units have been alerted following the revelations by the militants.
