LUCKNOW: Human rights activist Teesta Setalwad and noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani on Sunday ruled out free and fair elections in Gujarat under Narendra Modi.

"As long as a person, who is himself facing serious charges, is at the helm of affairs in Gujarat, free and fair polls are not possible", Setalwad said.

Jethmalani who also accompanied her went a step further demanding immediate dismissal of the Gujarat government to ensure free and fair polls in the state.

"It is for those who have the responsibility of upholding the constitution to see whether it is proper that elections are held with Modi as the Chief Minister", he said.

Setalwad and Jethmalani were here to take part in the second annual convention of the Aligarh Movement Foundation.

Alleging that the administration in the state was under tremendous pressure from the RSS, Setalwad expressed serious concern at what she called teaching of 'distorted' history in schools across the state.

"Text books being taught in Gujarat shower praises on Hitler and Mussolini and present a wrong picture of the minorities', she alleged.
