NEW DELHI: Geetanjali Nagpal, a former model from Delhi who about two months ago was found begging on the streets of the capital in tattered clothes and was subsequently diagnosed with psychotic depression, may walk the ramp again.
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), which got the 32-year-old model admitted to the VIMHANS for treatment, is planning to re-launch her in the modelling world on March 8, 2008, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Geetanjali was discharged from VIMHANS on Tuesday after doctors at the hospital declared her fit. She now spend the next two months at the Vidya Devi Jindal Girls School in Hisar (Haryana) with her mother.
“Doctors have advised that she should be introduced to social life slowly. We have asked her to first come to terms with her present circumstances and improve her relationship with her mother. She will stay away from public and media glare for a while,” said Reiny Jacob, member of DCW.
Geetanjali, who had once walked the ramp for top designers and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Sushmita Sen, had repeatedly expressed a desire to return to modelling during her stay at VIMHANS. “She wants to start modelling and we want to help her with her comeback. For two months we have looked after her and she is like family to us. We hope that she will be able to revive her career soon,” said Barkha Singh, DCW president.
Designers Vijay Kohli and Sameer Walia have approached the commission with modelling offers for Geetanjali and the proposals will be discussed with her soon.
A source at VIMHANS said even when Geetanjali was in the hospital she was choosy about her clothes. “When the DCW brought her new clothes and slippers to wear, she returned most of them saying they wouldn’t look good on her,” the source said.
