The Matunga boys take on Pillay College in the semifinal on Tuesday

MUMBAI: Peter Fernandes scored twice as Khalsa College beat KPB Hinduja 4-1 in the last league game (Pool 1) in the inter-college football tournament, at the University Pavilion ground here on Monday.

This win, however, was not enough to help them to top the pool as they finished behind Thakur College, who scored a 3-2 win over St Gonsalo, from Vashi, in the last league match.

In the semi final slated for Tuesday, Thakur will take on Rizvi College, who finished second behind Pillay College, while the latter will clash with Khalsa in the other semi final of the day.

Midfielder Peter Fernandes put Khalsa ahead in the 17th minute and struck again three minutes later to put his team on the road to victory.

The Hinduja did hit back to reduce the margin when Akshay Phaterphekar found the net off a long ranger. That was the only time, however, smiles crossed the faces of the Hinduja boys, as Ryan D and Abu Shaikh finished off the rout with a goal apiece.

Khalsa College should thank their goalkeeper Trinal Das, who was in good nick throughout the course of the match.

But for the one first-half goal, Trinal’s anticipation and collection of the ball was a treat to watch.

He brought about three exceptionally good saves diving to his left. Meanwhile, Dhumal Aditya played well for KPB Hinduja in the defence and midfield.
