Former skipper is looking a shadow of his true self

MUMBAI: Much of the talk has revolved around Rahul Dravid in the run up to the seventh and final game, more so since he has scored precious little in the recent past.

At the Wankhede on match eve, Dravid kept to himself for most of the training session that was conducted under lights.

There was the odd skip and shout from the former India skipper during a catching and fielding drill game, but it was clear that he was minding his own business; going about his task at hand. At the centre of the training session was Chief National Selector Dilip

Vengsarkar who had a tête-à-tête with Yuvraj Singh the vice-captain. They were shortly joined by MS Dhoni and the trio were engaged in a prolonged discussion.

After a while, Sachin Tendulkar too joined in, but Dravid stayed clear of all this. At the East side of the ground he was chasing balls hit by fielding coach Robin Singh.

Dravid hardly spoke all though the training session and while it would tricky to read too much when too little is being said, it is would be safe to say that the former Indian skipper’s mind is not being picked too often in this new set-up.

His scores of 31, 0, 13, 0 and 7 in this series has been a cause for concern but it has been quickly forgotten that he had made some good runs in England and has over 10,500 ODI runs against his name.

With the news rife that Dravid may not be picked for the seventh and final ODI at the Wankhede, Dravid’s training session was closely watched on match eve.

Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Yuvraj Singh, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma all had a hit in the nets. But Dravid for a while looked like he was content with practicing with catching.

He finally got into batting gear and knocked back a few balls thrown down by a junior cricketer before heading to the nets.
