LONDON: Cherie Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, has been honoured with this year's 'Eleanor Roosevelt Val-Kill' medal for her 'high ideals and courageous actions'.
The medal, given to those who 'embody Roosevelt's spirit and legacy', was presented to her at Hyde Park in New York on Sunday.
According to the awards spokesman, Blair was 'a noted human rights attorney, worldwide campaigner for women's rights and like Eleanor Roosevelt, a wife of a world leader'.
She said there was nothing in Cherie's background to suggest such a distinguished career.
