CHANDIGARH: This was one experience a group of 40 local students would remember for the rest of their lives and for no fault of theirs.

The students had purchased the tickets from a designated bank branch here to watch the fourth ODI between India and Australia at the Sector 16 cricket stadium here.

However, little did they know that their excitement to see their favourite heroes in action would land them in police station.

When the students were trying to make their entry inside the stadium in the morning, they were told by the cops that the 'student ticket' they were carrying were 'fake'.

Soon after, they were taken to Sector 17 police station and a case under various sections of the IPC was registered against them.

The students pleaded with the cops that they were 'innocent' and that they had purchased the tickets from the bank, which was authorised by the Haryana Cricket Association to sell them.

The parents of the students were also called and so were the bank officials and an official of the HCA, which is hosting this match.

The bank officials and HCA maintained that the tickets were genuine and the hologram of the HCA on the tickets had some how not got printed.

Realising that the students had been hauled up for no fault of theirs, the cops later let them off and took them in their vehicle and dropped them inside the stadium.

However, many parents cried foul alleging why their wards had been punished when they were carrying genuine tickets.

They also objected to some photos of their wards having been allegedly taken by the cops inside the police station.

While the HCA had also not put their stamp or signature on several media cards and also gave them away without any lamination thus making them prone to any kind of forgery, however, the harassment which the students had to go through could have been avoided with some care.
