RANCHI: Mahendra Singh Dhoni's deification is complete. One of his die-hard fans has penned a 'Dhoni Chalisa', on the lines of Hanuman Chalisa, which he recites every morning to pray for his success.
Dhoni's appointment as India captain for the one-day international series against Australia and Pakistan has catapulted him from hero to God, at least in his hometown.
"Jai Dhoni cricket ke maharaj Jai ho. Tumhari shakti aparampar hai. Tumhare bat se ball jaye boundary ke bahar. Jai Dhoni cricket maharaj ki jai ho (Hail to thee king of cricket. May you retain your strength. May the ball from your bat always cross the boundary line. Hail to thee king of cricket)." These are some of the lines written by Pankaj, a fan of the Indian skipper.
"When I recite the 'Dhoni Chalisa' it gives him the strength to play better," he said.
Pankaj compares Dhoni to Lord Hanuman.
"Hanumanji was reminded of his power by singing of his deeds, which enabled him to cross the sea and locate Sita. In the same way, Dhoni Chalisa would remind the cricketer of his potential and give him the strength to perform better," he said.
Pankaj prays before a Dhoni poster every morning. He even has plans to bring out 'Dhoni Chalisa' in the form of a booklet.
"I have plans to print the Chalisa so that more and more people can read it," said Pankaj. He claimed Dhoni became the captain of Indian team only after he started reading the Chalisa.
In Jharkhand, Dhoni commands a massive fan following. People have forgotten his poor performance in the World Cup and started bringing out Gutka packets and music albums in his name. His hairstyle is also back as a craze.
