BANGALORE: Bangalore police has drawn a blank in its investigations of Kafeel’s involvement in the failed Glasgow bombings after analysing the data retrieved by the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Lab (APFSL).

It was alleged that Kafeel Ahmed, the suicide bomber who allegedly drove a flaming Cherokee into Glasgow airport on June 30 had worked out the plan during his six-month stay in India and had stored the details in a compact disc, entrusted with his mother Zakia Ahmed in Bangalore.

Two discs of 120 GB capacity were sent to APFSL in August for the retrieval of the data stored, which the lab returned recently. “We only found jihadi material. There are no clues on Kafeel’s involvement with any banned or terrorist group here (Bangalore) or plans to blow up Glasgow airport,” an official in the anti-terrorist cell of Karnataka said.

The retrieved data contained speeches by al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, propaganda against the US and Britain, jihadi literature and the plight of the Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan and Chechnya, the official said.

Earlier, graphic instances of real-life torture in Chechnya and bomb designs downloaded from the internet had been found. The data sent by the APFSL also contained video clips in Urdu.

Bangalore police had earlier scrutinised all e-mails, mobile communication and other available evidence to collect information about Kafeel, his brother Sabeel Ahmed, who is now held by the British police on charges of suspected links to the botched terror plot and Mohammed Haneef, the doctor cleared of terrorism charges in Australia.

“There is no evidence of a plan being worked out. We suspected it to be a possibility,” the official said.
