NEW DELHI: In a new twist to the murder of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi, her sister on Thursday alleged before a court here that the slain MP's husband "deliberately" created situations leading to her killing.

Turning up before Additional Sessions Judge V K Bansal, Munni Devi alleged that Umed Singh had sent all her vehicles to garage despite there being no fault in them, forcing her sister to go to Parliament with the prime accused on the fateful day.

Deposing as 104th prosecution witness, she told the court that accused Sher Singh Rana used to come frequently to her sister's official residence at 44, Ashoka Road here and had taken her in his car on July 25, 2001, the day she was later murdered outside her house, allegedly by Rana and others.

Notably, 32-year-old Munni, who claims to be an eye-witness of her sister's murder, had in various press conferences accused Singh of conspiring with other accused.

She also told the court that Rana usually used to come there with Uma Kashyap, a worker of Phoolan's regional political party 'Eklavya Sena', and the duo had come to her residence together in the morning on the fateful day as well.

Earlier, Kashyap and slain MP's private secretary Kalicharan had also deposed that Rana had come to meet Phoolan on the day of incident.

Munni's testimony, though in line with the prosecution's story as far as Rana's presence with Phoolan on the day of murder is concerned, turns a new leaf, alleging a conspiracy angle to the entire episode, which is not in consonance with the prosecution's version.

Munni, who was earlier provided security cover by the court following her appeals apprehending danger to her life, would continue recording her statement on Friday.
