MUMBAI: There are no takers for the All India Inter-University swimming championship. Kanpur University, which had agreed to host the meet, has backed out.

“We have been informed that the pools in Kanpur are still under construction,” said Gurdeep Singh, the sports administrator of the Association of the Indian University. The championship was to be held this month. The AIU office has forwarded letters to different colleges asking them to come forward to host the event.

Citing the major hiccup being the pools which should be of a standard size with the diving boards, Singh is skeptical about this year’s championship. “The maximum AIU can stretch is up to October and beyond that there will be problems as the dates would clash with other events and the exams. Unless a college comes forward to host the event, it could called off, “ said Singh.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai University has completed its formalities and the team for the event has been selected. “We are not aware where the championship will be held, but we are going ahead with the process,” said UN Kendre, the physical director of Mumbai University. He, however, ruled out the University hosting the event.

Yogesh, Juilee champions Meanwhile, Yogesh Pawar and Juilee Patwardhan emerged as the champions of inter-college meet which concluded at the PM Hindu Bath pool here on Monday.
