Eleven dead, 7 hurt in Uttarakhand bus mishap

At least 11 people were killed and 7 injured when the bus carrying them plunged into a 300-metre gorge in Totaghati area of this district on Friday.

TEHRI: At least 11 people were killed and 7 injured when the bus carrying them plunged into a 300-metre gorge in Totaghati area of this district on Friday.

The bus with 18 passengers was on its way from Haridwar to Joshimuth in Chamoli district when the driver lost control over the steering on a sharp turn and it careened down the hillside, officials said.

The said 11 passengers died on the spot and senior police and administrative officials had rushed to the accident site to supervise rescue work

The injured were shifted to a private hospital in Dehradun.

Uttarakhand Governor Sudershan Agarwal and Chief Minister B C Khanduri have expressed grief over the mishap and asked the authorities to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.
